Album Artwork Analysis

When first looking at this album artwork, the main thing that stands out is the bold and vibrant colour of the text and the image in the middle of the artwork. The use of red and orange colours could represent the name of the band " red hot chilli peppers". As an audience members when hearing the word " chilli peppers" you automatically think about the fearless and daring colours that the band could use in artwork or even in their song lyrics. The plain and simple black background helps to make the middle image stand out rather alot which could help to bring more attention to the album and could even attract more audience listeners. When looking back at some of their older album artwork, I can see that there is a colour theme running throughout all of their albums. The connection between all the albums is recognisable to the public which would also help to attract more audience viewers. Their symbolic image in the middle of the artwork is one which has always been used by this band, to which they are now famous for either for having the image of the band members in the middle of or having a bold colour in it such as the one above. The representation of this album artwork is showing a more fiesty and angrier side to the band by having the use of the solid and substantional font in a circle shape leading around the image. I feel that this gives a feeling of leadership and entrapment.

This kiss album artwork, is probably the most famous one produced by the band due to their symbolic look and font to their Cd cover. The image on the front of the digipak is showing all of the band members in their full costume with makeup, however this has been done by animation and gives a more cartoony feel to the cover which gives a more friendly and welcoming feel to it. The use of lighter colours leading up to some more darker and depressing tones helps to give of the emotion and feeling of the album. Even though the font at the top of the artwork is rather small in comparison to the image, it still contains bold and eyecatching colours which would help to attract more audience viewers. The name of the album is called " destroyer", which helps to link back to the image on the front of the album, where the four cartoony style men are jumping up in the air with a yellowy fire colour beneath them. This could inidicate that these men are " destroying" something or someone?. Looking behind them there are some small builidings in the background which could represent a city of some sort. When looking back at their older artwork I can see that they have always used dark and dull colours, this has maybe been done to help to show the genre of their music and the mood they are wanting to portray to their audience. All members in the band are always in the shot on the album either as themselves or as a cartoony style image. I feel that this has been done to show their symbolic look to the rest of their fans and to the world.

When I first saw this album artwork, I was rather shocked at how the band/designers have used such dull and even boring color scheme. I feel that this could have maybe lowered the amount of sales the band may have made due to the less eye-catching colors and image on the front of the album. I feel that the main theme for this album was a " circus" style theme or fun fair, this is due to the style of the boarder around the name of the band and the use of the stars underneath the banner. The image of the bull underneath the boarder has an almost 1930's style to it. The font size to this album artwork is one that I have never seen before, its original size and style will grab the audiences attention, and will help to increase sales. As there is a " parental advisory" sticker on the side of this album, this could indicate that this album was only mainly directed at a higher target audience eg 17-24. This could be due to the fact of inappropriate lyrics or could indicate a crude story line to the song.
